Spring Energy Clearing

With Spring beckoning, this is a perfect time for cleansing and refreshing the energy in your home. I found this Space Clearing Ritual in The Good Energy Book by Tess Whitehurst – which I’ve condensed for simplification purposes.

Preparation

  1. Open all windows. Remove all exposed food/drink/pet food
  2. Make a clearing mist with 20 drops peppermint essential oil and 40 drops Rosemary essential oil.
  3. Pick up a sage bundle
  4. Place sea salt on a plate with a tea light candle in the center.

Ritual

  1. Starting in the center of your home (for most, that would be your living room) light the candle and place the plate of salt in the center of the room. Circling about the room, clap your hands being sure to include corners and closets to draw out the stagnant “old” energy.
  2. Light a bundle of sage and move counterclockwise to purify the stagnant energy.
  3. Spray the room with the peppermint and rosemary clearing mist moving in a clockwise direction.
  4. Repeat in each room of your home until finished.
  5. Extinguish the candle and flush the sale down the toilet.
  6. Shower and cleanse with lavender salt scrub.
  7. Eat carbohydrates and drink 16 ounces of water.

Namaste

Namaste, loosely translated means “the divinity within me bows to the divinity within you”. I am fond of this word because it captures the very essence of recognizing and honoring the divinity – the soul – in all living beings.

Cloutie Wishing Tree

The British Isles are full of magical places rife with fairy lore. Many of these places are marked with Cloutie trees where it is custom to tie a ribbon or cloth to the tree and make a wish.

While visiting the UK, I was lucky enough to stumble upon a Cloutie tree and was enchanted by all the colorful ribbons full of hopes and wishes fluttering in the wind. I tied on my own ribbon and my wish came true two months later… Since then, I always intended to make a Cloutie or Wishing Tree of my very own.

I finally got to it, and this spectacular Azalea seemed perfect for fitting the job. With Valentine’s Day approaching, I tied white, pink and red ribbons to its delicate branches. My family and I wrote the wishes on bits of folded paper and pinned to each ribbon. Wishes for 2016, wishes for family and friends, wishes for our dear imperiled Earth are all now fluttering on my perfect little Cloutie tree. My daughter was enchanted with the project so now I think we’ve just found a lovely annual tradition!

80 Acres Lavender Balm for Sleep

The chaos of day-to-day life can make it difficult to unwind at night. Even when you’re physically exhausted, it can be impossible to turn off your racing mind. I created a simple ritual, which once instilled as a habit, my body now automatically recognizes the relaxation cues. 21 Days to Master Affirmations

By now it should be pretty obvious I’m an affirmation enthusiast. I can personally attest to the power affirmations hold in positively transforming your life. One of my all-time favorite books devoted to affirmations is 21 Days to Master Affirmations by Louise Hay. Hay is one of the forerunners of the self-empowerment and Law of Attraction dynasties, as well as the founder of Hay House Publishing.

21 Days is a quick, easy and fun read showcasing the central ideas in several of her most popular titles. Research has shown that establishing a habit requires 21 days of practice. Each of the 21 days in this title are broken into chapters starting with an explanation of affirmations and the power they have to transform your life.

Every thought you think and every word you speak is an affirmation. All of your self-talk, your internal dialogue, is a stream of affirmations. You’re using affirmations every moment whether you know it or not. You’re affirming and creating your life experiences with every word and thought.

Hay explains that your beliefs are a result of habitual thinking patterns that go back as far as childhood. She covers everything from self esteem and fearful emotions, to critical thinking and forgiveness; from healing and aging to job success, money and prosperity. The book is packed with exercises to assist in making positive changes in each of these areas.

Affirmations are statements going beyond the reality of the present into the creation of the future through the words you use in the now.

Here are some valuable tips for practicing affirmations taken from the pages of 21 days…

– It is important to always state your affirmations in the present tense. If you start an affirmation with “I am going to” or “I will have” then your desire remains anchored in the future instead of summoning it NOW.

– Always check in with your emotions and let them be your guide. If you maintain a positive outlook, then your affirmation has a fertile environment in which to grow.

– When you catch yourself in a negative thought, redirect your mind by replacing the thought with: This is an old thought; I no longer choose to think that way. Then find a positive thought to replace it as quickly as possible. It can be as simple as, “I am grateful the sun is shining today.”

– Don’t waste time arguing for your limitations. The more you talk about a problem, the more you anchor it into place.

– Avoid sharing your affirmations and desires with non-believers. Their doubt and skepticism can taint the process and shake your belief in your desire being on its way.

This book is a great introduction to the topic for beginners, and a wonderful refresher full of powerful affirmations for pros. Pregnancy Survival Essentials List

There are hundreds, if not thousands of baby blogs out there and this is not one of them. But, for the sake of authenticity, I do want this blog to reflect my life experiences. I just had a baby girl three months ago, so I am going to devote a couple posts to covering baby and pregnancy.

Pregnancy isn’t easy, and taking care of your body, mind and spirit for nine+ months while your body creates a person is essential. I put together my survival list of what helped me cope with my rapidly expanding body and pregnancy-induced afflictions. Whether you are a mama-to-be or know one, this is a great list of resources and gift ideas. So here is my list of what helped me survive 41 weeks of pregnancy.

Gummy prenatal vitamins
When you are growing a little person it is absolutely essential to get your fill of nutrients. I had morning sickness my entire first trimester and couldn’t keep my vitamins down. These gummy prenatals actually did the trick and they taste like candy. These ones have DHA and folic acid which is key for baby’s brain development. I’ve had some hardcore nutrition junkies deny the legitimacy of gummy vitamins, but I’ve got the shiny, long pregnancy hair and healthy baby to prove it. So I still take them!

The Power of the Subconscious Mind

If I were to pick a single title that has most inspired me, it would be The Power of the Subconscious Mind by Joseph Murphy. This masterpiece is packed with inspiring messages and uplifting affirmations making this volume a permanent fixture on my bedside table. I read exerts whenever in need of a little (or big) pick-me-up, or if I’m faced with a challenge where the solution evades me.

Joseph Murphy was a student of Ernest Holmes who wrote the new thought classic Science of Mind. Though he doesn’t provide a scientific explanation of precisely what the subconscious mind is (luckily I have HERE) he does offer simple and fun techniques for harnessing subconscious mind power. I must caution that Murphy was Catholic in his early years so there are a few references applying these theories to Catholic doctrine. Sometimes his writing and manner of expression are choppy and old fashioned. But overall, these are minor flaws that don’t really detract from the incredible life-changing messages of the book.

One of my favorite aspects of the book is the brief summary of key points at the end of each chapter. Murphy covers everything – from love and money to career and addiction. I think the best way to illustrate the highlights is to pull a handful of quotes from the text – so enjoy!

“You think with your conscious mind, and whatever you habitually think sinks down into your subconscious mind, which creates according to the nature of your thoughts.”

“It is a universal truth that whatever you impress on your subconscious mind is expressed on the screen of space as condition, experience and event.”

“Health is the truth of your being. When you affirm health, harmony and peace for yourself or another, and when you realize these are universal principles of your own being, you will rearrange the negative patterns of your subconscious mind based on your faith and understanding of that which you affirm.”

“It is your right to be rich. You are here to lead the abundant life and be happy, radiant and free. You should therefore have all the money you need to lead a full, happy and prosperous life.”

“All frustration is due to unfulfilled desires. If you dwell on obstacles, delays and difficulties, your subconscious mind responds accordingly and you are blocking your own good.”

“If you are wondering about the answer to a problem, try to solve it objectively. If no answer comes, turn it over to your subconscious mind prior to sleep and the answer always comes. You do not always get the answer overnight. Keep on turning your request over to your subconscious until the day breaks and the shadows flee away. You delay the answer by thinking it will take a long time or that it is a major problem. Your subconscious has not problem, it knows only the answer. Believe that you have the answer now. Feel the joy of the answer and the way you would feel if you had the perfect answer. Your subconscious will respond to your feeling.”

Once the RAS has filtered the same information multiple times, it recognizes a pattern. Once the RAS identifies a pattern, it create a superhighway with a new network of neurons.

Once a superhighway is created, you don’t even have to use your conscious mind anymore – it becomes automatic – much like riding a bike. Here is the kicker: Your conscious mind processes 2,000 bits of information every minute. Your subconscious processes 4,000,000 bits of information. It is inconceivable to consider everything you are picking up around you at every moment without even realizing it. And the only things that you are noticing, are the neural pathways your RAS has already established.

So if you are seeing the same negative patterns continuing to show up in your life, your subconscious has most likely created a neural superhighway leading you straight back to the things you don’t want – poverty, failed relationships, poor health and unfulfilling jobs – only because you have developed a pattern.

If your subconscious is processing 4,000,000 bits of information each minute it means your subconscious is witnessing positive events too – evidence of good fortune, abundance, happiness, health, peace and love – but your psycho cybermetic set point is filtering it out because the neural pathway hasn’t been established.

A new neural pathway or superhighway must be created. There are many techniques for doing this, one of those being affirmations.

By consistently repeating affirmations you can create a new neural pathway over time. Affirmations should always be stated in the present tense because your subconscious does not know the difference between past, present or future. Your subconscious doesn’t think or reason because that is your conscious mind’s job.

By reciting an affirmation such as “I shine with success and good fortune” in the present tense, your conscious mind will probably resist if it is not true in that moment. But, as long as that message is getting to your subconscious, ultimately through repetition you are going to program your subconscious to believe that it’s true. Your subconscious only supports your conscious mind once it has made a decision. Affirmations are best if they are short and concise – easier for your conscious mind to process and hence easier for your subconscious mind to create a new positive superhighway.
